Passive conversion is conversion for Category 2 (Zone 1) that is more or less inferior in terms of quality depending on the manufacturer of the components. This can be costly in terms of acquisition and maintenance.

• Active conversion associates a combustible vapour and gas detection system with protection for Zone 2.
• It allows cheaper types of protection to be used, and offers the operator greater safety of use, even in the event of poor maintenance.
